This is a glossary of terms for ME/CFS – Myalegic Encephalitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

ME/CFS is a complex interactive illness.  The possible terms related to ME/CFS are long and confusing.  This list should help to educate and clarify.

 

Antimicrobials – “– including antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and antiparasitics – are medicines used to prevent and treat infections in humans, animals and plants.”  -WHO (World Health Organization)

Dry Brushing – “a daily body massage with a dry, stiff-bristled brush that’s said to help get rid of flaky skin, increase circulation, detoxify, help digestion – and even improve the appearance of cellulite.” – The Cleveland Clinic

Dyspnea – Difficult or labored breathing.  Shortness of breath.

Locomotor activity – “Locomotor activity refers to the movement and motion that is required to get from one place to another.  Locomotor activities are also inextricably linked to complex human activities including motivation and learning.” -San Diego Instrumemts

Microbreaks – Break up repetitive tasks or static postures by taking a microbreak (30-60 seconds) every 20 minutes.  For a full description of microbreaks see Standford University’s article.

Vestibulodynia – “…chronic pain and discomfort that occurs in the area around the opening of the vagina, inside the inner lips of the vulva. This area is known as the vestibule.” -Baylor College of Medicine
